Ellie's Heart

Yesterday we began our journey to try to uncover what was going on in Ellie's little body.  We knew Ellie had VSD. When we had Ellie's file reviewed by a doctor at referral we were told with the size of her hole there was a good chance it could close on it's own or if she needed surgery it wouldn't be too invasive. We knew in China that there were reasons she was not thriving and was so tiny.  After visiting the orphanage we wondered if it was because of the environment she was in?  We also knew there could be something going on in her little heart that also attributed to her delays.

Today we learned that our little Ellie has a large hole in her heart. It is almost double the size that was stated in her paperwork.  The hole is having a negative affect on her heart.  Our little Ellie will need open heart surgery.  She is not in heart failure but she will need surgery sooner than later. They would love to see her get some good nutrition and meat on her bones before they do surgery.  They don't perform this surgery in Sioux Falls so we are consulting with doctors for 2nd and 3rd opinions.

We are asking that you cover our little Ellie yet again.  Pray for good health for our peanut and that she can daily gain strength.  Pray that her heart would remain stable in the days to come until she has surgery. Pray for us as we continue to process the news of today.  Pray for wisdom as we find a team of doctors that we feel comfortable with and that God would give her doctors wisdom on the timing of surgery.  We know God has our little girl in the palm of his hands and today's news is no surprise to him.

Thanks for standing in gap for us once again.

Ok, as you know from Ivy Joy's heart, Boston Children's comes highly recommended!! CHOP, I suppose, might be 2nd on the list. So thankful that you are aware of what is going on, and that you have 'caught it' prior to heart failure. Praise for that, right?! That is good! Will be praying for Ellie and her parents as you determine the best path forward for your entire family (not easy to be the mom of 5, of that I am certain!). Peace be with you!!

Ellie is going to do great! Not to make light of her condition, but VSD is one of the easiest of the surgeries. I have a son with TOF and a daughter with a small VSD that is closing on it's own. If you have to pick a hospital, I would pick one of these three Boston, Ohio, or Atlanta. They are the best! We had our surgery in Boston and our surgeon while he isn't mister friendly he does his job and expects perfection. Feed her as much as you can and we will pray she gains some weight. My son has surgery on a Friday and went home on Tuesday. They recover amazingly. Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!

There has been an amazing "heart miracle" going on the last month at Bostons Childrens Hospital for Ivy Joy. The pediatric surgeons there saved Ivy's life after surgery in Phoenix,Az. failed and she went into heart failure. The blog is googled for me at Loving life with Lexi. See if this amazing story can help you out. Good Luck..
Blessings to you all on this holiday season. mm,vancouver,wa.

Julie, We are praying for little Ellie! I'm so sorry to find out that her VSD is worse than you thought but I'm so thankful she will have access to such great medical care in the USA. We live 45 minutes from The University of Michigan and they have great doctors...not sure what hospitals you are considering. You have a beautiful family and I will pray for strength and wisdom and peace for all of you as you deal with Ellie's health journey. She is so adorable and I can't wait to watch her blossom and grow as the months go by! Keep up the beautiful pictures. -Marie

Hi Julie,
Although we have never met I have been following your journey to your precious Ellie and am so thankful she is finally home with her family. I am also sorry to hear that her heart condition is worse than you expected but as someone else mentioned earlier - a glorious "heart miracle" just occurred in Boston with Ivy Joy so if you don't already know her Mommy, I would encourage you to reach out to her. Blessings to you and your sweet family!
